Follow your purpose

Now that we are a third of the way into 2021, it is time to look at what drives us. What is the purpose behind how we operate our businesses and our relationships?

Simon Sinek, the author of “The Infinite Game” and other inspirational business related books, says “Money is never a purpose, it is always a result.” I agree, purpose comes from within. It is a conscious choice and you follow your purpose not out of expectation but because you want to.

Following your purpose is internally rewarding and most often becomes financially rewarding. When your purpose is behind how you do business, you naturally succeed. The chamber’s purpose is to serve our members and our community in a manner that promotes a healthy business environment for everyone to grow and prosper and our team is very motivated by that purpose!

The way we all do business has changed dramatically and it is very important that we learn how to better serve our members in this new climate. Earlier this year, we sent out a member survey and received some really great ideas for new ways to promote members and subjects of interest in education.

This year, along with building relationships among our members, we are focused on providing added value to your membership without added costs. We have implemented new programs already and you will see more in the coming months. We added a member editorial opportunity to our weekly emails and in the monthly newsletter; we added an Industry Spotlight with members listed in that industry; a nonprofit will be featured with an overview of their work; and a health care section with an educational article to promote wellness in our community. If you have additional ways that we can support you, please share. Your input is important for us to meet our purpose of serving you.

Just over a month ago we had the opportunity to have our first in person event for 2021 and it happened to be one of the most special events in our calendar. We celebrated the annual Recognition Event as a combination of in person and Facebook Live presentations. It was intimate and incredibly special. The video is on the Post Falls Chamber Facebook page, as well as the Post Falls Chamber YouTube Channel in case you missed it.

The next day, the Post Falls Press did a wonderful job of covering the evening and gave recognition to our community and the chamber in an editorial titled, “Post Falls is Nobody’s Bedroom.” The article highlighted Post Falls as being one of the fastest growing cities in the state with a “proactive collection of talented people and businesses,” and in reference to the award recipients, the article stated, “That’s a group of excellence that would make any community proud.” And proud we are.

Still beaming from a great kickoff for 2021, we followed with our first CEO Speaker Series with Timothy Ledford from Safeguard. Safeguard was awarded the Coolest Company Culture award from the Journal of Business Spokane and Ignite at the 25 + 5 event. It was another intimate meal and conversation with an inspirational leader in our community.

Following that, we had our first in person Connect 4 Lunch membership meeting since the fall and it was great to gather and network in a safe and responsible way. We heard from Bob Seale, community development director for the city of Post Falls, on an economic update for the city. As it was mentioned earlier, we are growing like crazy and it is an exciting time to be in Post Falls!

Mark your calendars for our next Connect 4 Lunch on April 20, doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the program runs from noon to 1 p.m. at Red Lion Templin’s on the River. Tom Simpson with Ignite will be speaking on “Regional Innovation.” Seating is limited so register now www.postfallschamber.com.

Next up, the 2021 Post Falls Chamber of Commerce Community Business Fair, sponsored by Northwest Specialty Hospital is on Wednesday, April 21 at the Greyhound Park and Event Center from 4-7 p.m. Network in person with dozens of friendly businesses all under one roof. We will follow COVID related safety guidelines that Panhandle Health set forth for events of this type so we can network responsibly. Parking and admission are always free!
