A time to slow down and reflect

I can’t believe the holidays are nearly here! Time flies when you are having fun! I love the month of November because it allows us to slow down and reflect. November inspires gratitude. Gratitude for friends and family, the right to vote and the sacrifice that incredible veterans gave for our freedoms.

“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” — William Arthur Ward

We are grateful for our members and the wonderful community we get to serve. As you begin to plan for the holiday season, we want to encourage you to shop local.

A speaker at an event I attended recently shared the statistic that for every dollar spent in your community, it will touch a minimum of seven hands before it leaves. That’s a multiplier effect of seven and what a huge economic impact for our community!

Most of us are well aware of supply chain issues, shipping containers full of merchandise floating off the shores of the coast and shipping delays with most carriers. The best way we can ensure that our businesses thrive during this challenging time is to get off Amazon, get in the car and visit your local stores. Now more than ever we all need to be intentional about where AND how we spend our money.

I would love to encourage every one of you reading this to get a Chamber Directory and pick one business a week to shop with. If we all did that through the end of the year, imagine the impact it would have on our community? If you accept the challenge, please share your stories with us so we can inspire more to do the same. You just might make new friends, find things you never knew you needed or you may give a family the ability to send a child to dance or purchase new hockey skates. “You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy local and that’s kind of the same.” — Anonymous

That being said, we have some opportunities coming up to network with area business and learn some things that may help you develop your business. We hope to see you at the following:

• Join us for the November Coffee Connections with Ken Scott, the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Consultant from Idaho Department of Labor today, Nov. 30, at 8 a.m. here at the Chamber. Ken will be sharing the services that he can offer to your business and local veterans.

• The RCLA Alumni are hosting the annual Pajama Drive Party on Dec. 3, from 4-6 p.m. at the Post Falls Chamber. Thank you to our Event Sponsor, Idaho Central Credit Union! All pajamas collected go to the Post Falls Police Department’s Victim Services Unit, also known as OASIS — a program helping women and children.

• Finally, we are excited to announce the Post Falliday’s Tiny Tree Festival brought to you by our Northern Lights Sponsor, Heritage Health on Saturday, Dec. 4 at Red Lion Templin’s on the River from 10 a.m. to noon. Tickets on sale now for $30. Come enjoy a lovely brunch with a mimosa and Bloody Mary bar and bid on beautifully decorated 4-foot Christmas trees. Proceeds go to support the programs that the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce runs to support area business. Select trees and centerpieces will be available to bid online during and after the event and those items will close Monday, Dec. 6. Seright’s Ace Hardware outdid themselves this year with a donated 7-foot fully decorated tree themed “A bird’s eye view.” Raffle tickets for that tree are on sale now and during the event for $10 each or three for $20.
