40 Under 40: Avery Duke

Avery Duke is the events coordinator for Hagadone Marine Group.
She started working in the wedding and event industry at 18, curious to learn what the field was all about.
"Six years later, I'm still deeply passionate about it and can't picture myself doing anything else," she said.
Duke's education didn’t come from a traditional college setting, but rather through hands-on experience in the field.
"I’ve been fortunate to learn directly from amazing mentors and colleagues who’ve shared their knowledge and allowed me to grow," she said. "This real-world education has shaped my skills and approach, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities to learn from those around me."
Those hands-on experiences working with amazing people helped shaped her into who she is today.
"Growing up, I loved organizing fun experiences and celebrations for family and friends, which sparked my passion for creating meaningful events," Duke said. "Professionally, the mentors who believed in me and challenged me helped build my confidence and trust in my abilities. Every project, success and mistake has shaped my journey and made me who I am today."
In five to 10 years, Duke is sure she will still be working in the event world, wherever her career path takes her.
"Whether I’m still in wedding planning or exploring new areas within the industry, I’m excited to keep growing, learning and creating memorable experiences," she said. "I’m open to the possibilities and excited for what’s ahead."
If she could give her younger self advice: "It would be to trust your abilities when new opportunities come your way. Don’t second-guess yourself or shy away from challenges — those moments of growth will push you further than you ever imagined. Embrace the unknown with confidence and trust that you’re capable of handling whatever comes your way."
