40 Under 40: Matthew Enns

Matthew Enns is the founder of Enns Wealth Management - Northwestern Mutual, where he works in wealth management and financial planning.
While attending college, Enns started working in the auto industry. After college he continued working with the Parker Auto Family as a finance manager, where he learned how to interact with people, how to work diligently and learned the importance of integrity.
"Knowing I always loved the finance world and wanting to run my own business, I eventually joined Northwestern Mutual after interviewing with numerous firms," Enns said. "I appreciated the focus on holistic planning and true integrated planning for clients. The tenacity I learned in the auto industry and the guidance of some strategic mentors helped me to become one of the faster-growing teams with Northwestern Mutual nationally, even ranking in the top 200 out of 8,000 national advisers and recognized by Forbes as a best in state financial security professional."
Enns holds a degree in business and accounting. He said understanding the tax code has been extremely helpful as he helps clients navigate financial planning as it relates to strategic portfolio management and retirement distribution.
Along with his accounting degree, he has continued education through the American College of Financial Services and the Certified Financial Planning Board, which has helped him continue to craft his trade and become a specialist for his clients.
"I believe in an industry like this it is imperative to continually be learning and gaining further credentials to assist clients navigate and ever-changing financial environment," Enns said.
He said he has been blessed to have some key mentors in his life through family who owned businesses, mentors in his current field and family members who have instilled key foundational attributes in him, such as integrity and the pursuit of excellence.
"Beyond that, I believe raising my four kids with my amazing wife is a key influence to set a great example for them for what is possible," Enns said.
In five to 10 years, he sees himself continuing to spend as much time as he can with his family helping to coach sports, hitting the ski slopes and taking trips to provide lasting experiences for his children.
"I will be able to do that with the support of my growing team as we continue to serve families spread across the country," he said. "We will continue to engage in the local community and give back to the community we love.
Advice to a younger self: "Work hard and be willing to take chances, especially when you are building your dream."
