40 Under 40: John Hennessy

John Hennessy is the CEO of Bonner General Health in Sandpoint.

He graduated from Gonzaga University with a degree in finance, then received his Master's of Health Policy and Administration degree from Washington State University. While in graduate school, he did projects for a couple critical access hospitals in Washington, one of which hired him as its chief financial officer upon graduation. It was a perfect blend between his two degrees — finance and health care administration. He has been working in health care administration ever since.

As CEO, Hennessy oversees the strategic direction of the hospital along with maintaining its financial health.

"My education in finance and health care administration really gave me the skillset, knowledge and tools to effectively oversee both and ensure quality, compassionate health care is provided in our hospital’s community," he said.

In five to 10 years, he sees himself in the same hospital CEO role at Bonner General Health.

"I truly love the organization I work for and the community I live in and serve," he said. "This is my dream job."

Advice to his past self: "I’d tell myself to be patient, be open to all opportunities and be motivated by challenges that you encounter."
