But in recent years, a new destination has emerged as a must-visit spot for locals and tourists alike — Pine Street Woods.
Despite being a relatively new public space, opening in the fall of 2019, this 180-acre community forest has quickly become one of the most talked-about places to explore in North Idaho. Word of mouth has been the primary way people discover the property, which sits just outside downtown Sandpoint. And as more people experience its year-round trails and stunning natural beauty, Pine Street Woods is increasingly becoming a quintessential Sandpoint experience.
"When you have family visiting from out of town, what's the first thing you tell them? You've got to see City Beach and Schweitzer. And now, people are adding Pine Street Woods to this list" said Katie Cox, executive director of Kaniksu Land Trust, the nonprofit organization that owns and manages the property.

This newly acquired property, known locally as the historic Pine Street Ski Hill, has been a beloved community destination for skiing and sledding for decades.
Pine Street Woods is part of a larger network of conserved lands that provide public access and recreational opportunities. Adjacent to it are two privately owned conservation properties, Sherwood Forest and VTT, both of which contribute to the extensive Syringa Trails system.
