40 Under 40: Cory Donenfeld

Northwest Autobody came into being in a one-room shop with a dirt floor.

Almost 50 years later, the business has three locations — Sandpoint, Ponderay and Bonners Ferry — and more than 30 employees.

“That is still hard to believe,” said Cory Donenfeld, who co-owns the business with his brother, Eric. They bought the business from their dad eight years ago, when Northwest Autobody expanded to Ponderay.

Donenfeld began doing odd jobs at a young age. He attended North Idaho College to level up in the industry, graduating in 2007. He’s been at it ever since — always learning, always sharing.

Being named a 40 Under 40 winner is both an honor and a humbling experience, Donenfeld said.

“I get so focused on my business and my family that I don’t think about recognition,” he said. “It’s a nice surprise and a reminder that there are so many achievers in all age groups.”

At the end of the day, Donenfeld said he hopes to be remembered as someone who exceeded expectations and made a positive difference in his community.

“If you treat customers and employees like family, the rest will take care of itself,” he said. “Sandpoint is still a small town and our local, family-owned business strives to have a reputation as the go-to auto body shop in the region.”
